Chanel is known for fashion, perfumes, cosmetics and skincare products. This post is about the Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation. If you are thinking about buying this foundation this post is for you!

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation Discontinued

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation was discontinued in 2016 and was replaced by Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation. I was disappointed because Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation was my holy grail foundation. If you are interested in knowing how the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation performed and finding a few dupes read more here.

Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation Shades and Price

The Chanel Le Teint Ultra Tenue Ultrawear Flawless Foundation was released in 2016 priced at $60 and is currently available in 16 shades.

I purchased shade 121 Carmel and it matches me really well although I still think Chocolate 132 would have probably been a better match. However, I was unwilling to take the chance of the foundation being too red or orange.

Only 16 shades … 16 shades. Some of these companies just don’t care about extending their line to include everyone and Chanel is known for this behavior. While they continue to receive the backlash it seems the company makes too much money to care.

Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation Price Range Versus Chanel Le Teint Ultra Tenue Foundation Quality

I expect a $60 foundation to outperform a drugstore foundation by a huge margin but sadly this replacement foundation was just a disappointment. Now having owned the Estee Lauder Stay in Place Foundation and have repurchased it several times I see the similarities or see what Chanel was trying to achieve, however, they miss the mark with this one.

Anyway to some extent, I believe if I didn’t use the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation before trying Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation maybe I wouldn’t have been so disappointed. Overall, the quality isn’t what you would expect from a Chanel product.

Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation The Good The Bad And The Ugly

This is the most difficult foundation to apply I own to date and I own a range of drugstore and high-end foundations. Overall, when I first applied the foundation I was shocked.

  • Shocked by how difficult the foundation was to blend.
  • Shocked by how many more pumps I had to use to cover my entire face.
  • Shocked by how sticky and tacky it felt on the skin.
  • Shocked by how cakey it looked on the skin.
  • Shocked by how heavy it felt on the skin.

After all, this really could not be what Chanel represented – there was nothing luxurious about it.

The only pro about this foundation is it’s really mattifying after setting it with a translucent powder. However, while it is mattifying it does not control excessive oil. So if you extremely oily you will need a good primer to pull this off which I will share shortly.

The Second Attempt Applying Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation

So since my first attempt was a disaster without a foundation primer there was no way I was going to take that chance again so I decided to use the Chanel Light Creator Brightening Makeup Base sample I received with my order. Sadly, the primer didn’t help the foundation blend, however, it really mattified the skin, decreased the size of my pores and helped control my oils slightly. If the primer/makeup base wasn’t so expensive I would consider purchasing it but for that price no ma’am.

The Third Attempt Applying Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation

At this point, I was frustrated – I was just tired of hitting my face with a makeup sponge trying to make this foundation blend it was getting really ridiculous at this point. So I tried it one last time using a silicone primer. If it did not blend with a silicone based primer it would be returned.

Smashbox Primer To The Rescue

I had a sample of Smashbox primer that is jam-packed with silicone so I figure I give it a try and I was not disappointed. It’s weird because before I wasn’t really impressed with the primer but because I had experience using it I knew if this foundation was still difficult to blend with a primer there was no hope.

Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation Results With The Smashbox Photo Finish Silicone Based Primer

In the end, I was able to make the foundation work with the Smashbox photo primer. The primer helped the foundation blend, and now I use less product which is great considering how expensive this foundation is.

Best Primer To Use With Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation

If you are having a hard time blending the Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation on the skin, I highly recommend using a silicone based primer as your base. In addition, spraying the skin with a little bit of Mac Fix Plus really helps.

Makeup Application Tools To Use

A flat kabuki brush or a slightly damp makeup sponge is best for applying Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation.

Is Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation Similar To Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation

Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation smells like the discontinued Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation but in other regards, the formula is completely different. For a full comparison between these two foundations see this post here.

Would I Recommend Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation

Overall, considering what I went through I wholeheartedly wouldn’t recommend anyone purchasing this foundation without sampling it first.

In my case, I purchased Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation without sampling first because I was running low on the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation and  I thought the Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation was just an improved formula – I really wasn’t expecting them to change the formula so much.

Anyway, making this assumption was a mistake on my part. So in conclusion, if you really want to try Chanel Ultrawear Flawless Foundation get a sample first by all means.
