Buy Groceries Online To Save Money On Grocery Bill

Buying groceries online is the new cool thing to do. If you’re still buying groceries the traditional way you are most likely overpaying for groceries, using time and gas, which could be put to better use.

Plus, some stores offer special additional discounts. For example, Target offers a 5% discount on purchases when purchases are made using their RedCard. Click here to find out more about Target’s RedCard discount program rules.

Use coupons To Help Decrease Grocery Bill

Some people don’t like coupons, and they don’t like people who hold up the line using coupons.

Yes! It is what it is. You are human, so your feelings are completely natural. However, coupons are one of the most effective ways to save money on groceries.

If you are really serious about saving on groceries, using coupons should be part of your strategy.

Eat Smaller Meals

Overeating robs you of your health and money. Reducing your food intake can alleviate both problems – you will keep more money in your wallet, plus it’s a great way to reduce excess body weight, especially if you are struggling to lose weight.

Buy Most Used Non-Perishable Grocery Items In Bulk

It’s often better to buy grocery items in bulk when the price per unit is lower.

However, you should only buy the most used grocery items on your list.

Always avoid buying rarely used items in bulk no matter how cheap they are unless you are catering for a huge event.

Rarely used grocery items tend to expire before you can completely use up the bulk purchase.

Therefore, to avoid throwing money away, only purchase most used non-perishable grocery items in bulk.

Buy Less Fresh Vegetables and Fruits

A balanced meal includes vegetables and fruits. However, since they are perishable items, they go bad very quickly.

Hence, unless you’re planning a huge family gathering or event, buy fewer fresh vegetables and fruits.

Instead, add a few canned and frozen vegetables and fruits to the mix.

Additionally, if you own a backyard, plant a few vegetables and fruits if you can – your wallet will thank you in the long run.

Avoid Food Wastage

Julius in “Everybody Hates Chris” had the right idea all along. This was one of my favorite sitcoms.

Imagine back in the day I thought he was too damn cheap – I actually called him Mr. Cheapo, but now I get it – every cent counts.

So if you do one thing on this list, this should be it – avoid food wastage. You can save so much money in the short run and long run.

Simple ways to avoid food wastage include:

  • Avoid overcooking.
  • Store leftovers but eat them quickly.
  • Swap leftover dishes with family and friends.
  • Closely monitoring kids to ensure they are eating their meals and not just biting a few pieces then throwing the rest of their meals away.
  • Check pantry often for products close to expiry to use them quickly before they expire.

Implement these guidelines, and surely you will slash your grocery bill dramatically.
