Makeup sponges are great tools for applying foundation. They are one of the preferred tools for applying foundation and loved by many including me! I love that airbrush foundation look after using a makeup sponge to apply my foundation. It’s the next best thing to using an airbrush makeup kit. I have eyed the Aeroblend Airbrush Makeup Kit on Amazon for the longest, but the price have me hostage – I just can commit! I will put it on my birthday wish list. Anyways … for people like me makeup sponges are great substitution for airbrush kits because they get the job done and most importantly they are affordable!
Makeup Sponges Are Reusable
You can use these bad boys over and over! That’s another huge advantage for using makeup sponges. Makeup sponges have totally replaced my makeup wedges – I no longer purchase makeup wedges. Latex-free foam makeup wedges are great for applying makeup but over time the cost adds up. Overall, I love a good makeup sponge – they blend foundation like nobody business the only con is cleaning them can be a hassle without using the right products.
Using Clean Makeup Sponges
Since I am acne prone using clean makeup sponges is a must. Hence, use clean makeup sponges for every foundation application. I learnt the hard way after breaking out from using a dirty makeup sponge. My skin was like no hunny! What are you doing! The break out was terrible, in fact I am still trying to get rid of the acne scars from that breakout. So if you are acne prone use clean makeup sponges to apply your foundation. Using clean makeup sponges to apply my foundation has significantly helped improved my skin.
Best Makeup Sponge Cleanser
One of the best makeup sponge cleansers for cleaning makeup sponges is the Blendercleanser Solid by Beautyblender. It was primary created as the cleansing solution for the beauty blender, however it can be used to clean other makeup sponges and brushes as well. This makeup sponge cleanser is amazing – it cleans makeup sponges like a charm but it is expensive. Consequently, after running out of Blendercleanser Solid a few times I decided to try a few DIY cleansers.
DIY Makeup Sponge Cleanser
The internet is a great place! What a time to be alive in this advance technology era. There is so much information available online for research. As part of my research, I viewed several YouTube videos and read several articles. After my research and trial and error I finally found a DIY makeup sponge cleanser using products from the kitchen. This DIY solution works great! All you need is some vinegar, some dishwashing liquid preferably Dawn Ultra Dishwashing Liquid Dish Soap and water. I am glad I found a cheap alternative however, during my trial and error, I damaged my beauty blender in the process. One of my bad DIY makeup cleansers included bleach! Don’t do not use bleach to clean your makeup sponge. My beauty blender was severely damaged after using bleach to clean it. Use vinegar and dishwashing liquid soap instead.
How To Clean Makeup Sponges With Vinegar and Dishwashing Liquid Soap
What You Need: A bowl, vinegar, dishwashing liquid soap and water. I highly recommend the cheapest store brand vinegar and Dawn Ultra Dishwashing Liquid Dish Soap. For this tutorial I used the Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar and Ajax Ultra Triple Action Liquid Dish Soap. Overall, as long as it’s vinegar and dishwashing Liquid Dish Soap this method will work.
Step 1: Soak makeup sponge in lukewarm water with vinegar and dishwashing liquid soap for five minutes.
Step 2: After soaking use your fingers to massage the solution into the makeup sponge focusing on the areas with the most makeup residue. Then use your fingers to squeeze the dirty water from the makeup sponge. Repeat this process until there is no more makeup residue on the makeup sponge.
Step 3: Rinse makeup sponge in lukewarm water until water runs clear then squeeze excess water from makeup sponge with fingers.
Step 4: Using a clean towel squeeze the excess water from the makeup sponge then place the makeup sponge on a clean surface to dry.
So this is it – the best way to clean makeup sponges using vinegar and dishwashing liquid. I like the Blendercleanser Solid but after buying a few I stop repurchasing because it’s out of my budget. If you’re looking for a DIY makeup sponge cleanser vinegar and dishwashing liquid is a great solution. Let me know how it works out for you.
